Westminster

Town in Orange County, southwest California; population (1990) 78,100. It is located to the northwest of Santa Ana and 40 km/25 mi southeast of Los Angeles. It has industrial parks producing various light manufactures, as well as large commercial malls. It is noted as home to a sizeable Vietnamese community, known locally as ‘Little Saigon’. Westminster was founded in 1870 as a Presbyterian temperance colony.

It is an agricultural centre and also serves as a Baltimore commuter dormitory. Western Maryland College (1867) is in the town. Westminster was founded in 1764, and was a Union supply base during the Civil War.
