Westminster Bridge

Bridge spanning the River Thames in central London, England, overlooking the House of Commons. Designed by Thomas Page between 1854 and 1862, it is a steel bridge 247 m/810 ft long. At its western end is a large statue of Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni, (1902) by Thomas Thorneycroft.

The original Westminster Bridge was built between 1739 and 1750 by the Swiss architect Charles Labelye. Before that, the only bridge across the Thames in London was London Bridge.

The original bridge inspired the sonnet by William Wordsworth ‘Upon Westminster Bridge’ (1802).
