Weston

Town in Middlesex County, northeast Massachusetts; population (2000 est) 11,500. It is located 19 km/12 mi west of Boston. Weston is one of Boston's most affluent suburbs, with many large estates and much open land. The town was incorporated in 1713–13.

The first settlers in the area were from Watertown, Massachusetts. By 1679, they had established farms, sawmills, and services on the site. The town provided services such as taverns, including the Golden Ball Tavern (1750), on the Boston Post Road. It later lost trade to other roads and became a boot- and shoe-making centre. In the 1870s inhabitants from Boston began building country houses in the area and Weston has since retained its position as a wealthy suburb.

Weston has 11 entries on the National Register of Historic Places including a tavern and houses. It is home to Regis College (1927), the Weston Historical Society Museum, and the Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History.
