Westwood, Vivienne (1941– )

English fashion designer. She first attracted attention in the mid-1970s as co-owner of a shop with the rock-music entrepreneur Malcolm McLaren (1946– ), which became a focus for the punk movement in London. Early in the 1980s her ‘Pirate’ and ‘New Romantics’ looks gained her international recognition. She has designed clothes and accessories for mail-order companies and young people's high-street fashion stores.
