Weyburn

Town in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada; population (1991) 9,700. It is located 101 km/63 mi southeast of Regina and 74 km/46 mi north of the North Dakota state line, on the Souris River and the Missouri Coteau. Much of its economy centres around an oilfield opened in the 1950s. Weyburn also serves as the distribution point for a grain and mixed farming region. It has diverse light manufactures, and is an institutional centre, with regional colleges and hospitals.
