Weyse, Christoph Ernst Friedrich (1774-1842)

German-Danish pianist and composer. From 1789 he was a pupil of J A P Schulz at Copenhagen, where he settled as an organist and music teacher. He also collected and edited Danish folksongs.

The Sleeping-Draught (1804), Faruk, The Cave of Adullam (1816), An Adventure in Rosenborg Gardens (1827), Floribella, The Feast at Kenilworth (after Scott), operettas.

Vocal

c. 30 cantatas; Danish folksongs.

Instrumental

seven symphonies; organ and piano works.
