US Requiem for mezzo-soprano, baritone, chorus, and orchestra by Paul Hindemith (text by Walt Whitman); first performed in New York on 14 May 1946, conducted by Robert Shaw. The piece was written in memory of Franklin D Roosevelt and the US war dead.
