Whitaker, Joseph (1820–1895)

English publisher and founder (in 1858) of the weekly The Bookseller, which developed into the leading journal of the British book trade. In 1869 he brought out the first issue of Whitaker's Almanack, a comprehensive one-volume reference guide to the year's events. Both titles are still published by J Whitaker and Sons Ltd.
