White Bear Lake

Town in Ramsey and Washington counties, southeast Minnesota; population (1990) 24,700. It is situated on the White Bear and Goose lakes, and is a suburb 16 km/10 mi northeast of St Paul. Local industries include sailboat building and truck farming. There has been a great deal of commercial development in the 1980s and 1990s. Originally settled in 1851, it was for many years a summer resort for wealthy St Paul families.
