Whitehead, John Cunningham

Whitehead, John Cunningham (1922– )

US investment executive. He joined Goldman, Sachs & Co. in 1947, became a partner in 1956, and was senior partner and cochairman from 1976–84. He served as a deputy secretary of state in the Reagan Administration (1985–89) before returning to the private sector as chairman of AEA Investors, Inc, in New York City. He served as chairman of the board of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation in New York 2001–06, and is currently chairman of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation. The son of a telephone lineman, Whitehead was born in Evanston, Illinois. He was educated at Haverford College and Harvard University.
