Whitehead, Wilbur C(herrier) (1866–1931)

US bridge authority. President of the Simplex Automobile Company, he turned to bridge in 1910 and played on the 1928 Vanderbilt Cup winning team. He helped popularize bridge by competing in games described on radio and invented many standard conventions of bidding and play. Whitehead was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
