Whitney, Hassler

Whitney, Hassler (1907–1989)

US mathematician. He specialized in manifolds, integration theory, and analytic varieties. Noted for his work in topology analysis, he joined the Princeton University faculty in 1933 and became a professor emeritus at the Institute for Advanced Study in 1977. A member of the National Academy of Sciences, he was awarded the National Medal of Science in 1976. Whitney was born in New York City.
