Whythorne, Thomas (1528-1596)

English composer. He travelled in Italy and elsewhere in Europe, and published his first book of music, Songes for several voices, in 1571, and his second, a book of duets, in 1590; the second volume contains the earlier printed English instrumental music. His autobiography, written around 1576, was published in 1961.
