wide area network

A wide area network is used to connect remote computers via telephone lines or satellite links. The ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) telecommunications network allows high-speed transfer of digital data.

In computing, a network that connects computers distributed over a wide geographical area. ‘Dumb’ terminals and microcomputers act as workstations, which connect to remote systems via a local host computer.
