Winnebago County

County in north-central Illinois; area 1,336 sq km/516 sq mi; population (1990) 252,900. It is bordered by the state of Wisconsin to the north, and is bisected by the Pecatonica and Rock rivers. Rockford, located in the Rock River Valley, in the southeast, is its administrative headquarters; the town and its suburbs dominate the regional economy. Suburbs of Beloit, Wisconsin, are in the northeast. Much of the county is rural, with numerous dairy and truck farms.

Winnebago County

County. in east-central Wisconsin; area 1,163 sq km/449 sq mi; population (1990) 140,300. It is bounded to the east by Lake Winnebago; the Wolf and Fox rivers flow through the county. Its administrative headquarters is Oshkosh. It is mainly a dairy and farming area. There is large-scale manufacturing, particularly of paper and wood products, at Oshkosh, Menasha, and Neenah.
