Wiles, Andrew John (1952- )

English mathematician famous for finally completing the proof of Fermat's last theorem in 1994, more than 460 years after Fermat claimed to have proved it.

Wiles was born in Cambridge, England. He studied at Oxford University before completing a doctorate at Cambridge University. In 1994 he became a professor of mathematics at Princeton University and received many honours, including the Wolf Prize (awarded by the Israeli Wolf Foundation) in 1996.
