Willcocks, David (Valentine) (1919– )

English conductor, organist, and teacher. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London and King's College, Cambridge. He was cathedral organist at Salisbury and then Worcester (1947–57), and of King's College (1957–74), where he directed many tours and successful recordings with the chapel choir. He conducted the Bach Choir from 1960 in annual performances of Bach's St Matthew Passion and in works by Fricker, Crosse, and Hamilton. He was director of the Royal College of Music, London, from 1974 until 1984. He was knighted in 1977.
