Johnson, William (1771–1834)

US Supreme Court justice. He served in the South Carolina legislature 1794–98, the state's high court 1798–1804, and the US Supreme Court 1804–34. He established the model for recording dissenting court opinions.

He was born in Charleston, South Carolina.

Johnson, William (1715–1774)

Irish-born American colonial baron and Indian agent. He gained the full confidence of the Iroquois tribes, especially Mohawks. He became their agent in 1754 and led militiamen and Iroquois in a victory over the French at Lake George in 1755.

He was born in Smithtown, Ireland. He was knighted for leading the victory over the French.
