Livingston, William (1723–1790)

American politician and journalist. He became a political leader on the side of the Whigs. He served in the New York legislature 1759–60, but his influence was chiefly exerted in the columns of the Independent Reflector 1752–53 and the New York Mercury 1754–55. He later moved to New Jersey, where he became the state's first governor. He was a delegate to the Federal Convention of 1787, and supported the New Jersey plan. He was the grandson of Robert Livingston.

His son Henry Brockholst Livingston (1757–1823) was an officer in the American Revolution, and a political pamphleteer under the name Decius.
