Williams, Venus Ebone Starr (1980– )US tennis player. Having won every junior event she had entered, she turned professional aged just 14. Her power on the court, with a serve of up to 207 kph/129 mph, changed the face of the women's game. In 2000 she won 6 out of the 10 tournaments she played in, including Wimbledon, the US Open, and the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics as part of a 35-match unbeaten run. Playing doubles with her younger sister Serena Williams, they became only the fourth pair to win all four Grand Slam tournaments when they captured the Australian Open doubles title in 2001. She won her fifth Wimbledon singles title in 2008.
