Williamstown

Town in Berkshire County, northwest Massachusetts; population (2000 est) 8,400. It is located 31 km/19 mi north of Pittsfield, at the confluence of the Hoosic and Green rivers, on the Vermont and New York state borders. It was incorporated in 1768.

It is home to Williamstown College (1793), whose campus dominates Williamstown village. Features include the Sterling and Clark Institute (1955), an art and museum research centre noted for its collection of French Impressionist works.
