dust devil

Small dust storm caused by intense local heating of the ground in desert areas, particularly the Sahara. The air swirls upwards, carrying fine particles of dust with it.

I found myself three days out of Adelaide, sitting at the side of the road trying to hitch a lift after a miniature tornado, know as a willywilly, picked up my trail bike and flung it willy nilly 20metres into the desert in several pieces.
