Wilson

Town and administrative headquarters of Wilson County, east-central North Carolina, USA; population (1990) 36,900. It is located 64 km/40 mi east-southeast of Raleigh. An important bright-leaf tobacco market and processing centre, it also manufactures textiles, concrete products, truck and bus bodies, electronic components, agricultural equipment, lumber and wood products, and cottonseed oil. Barton (formerly Atlantic Christian) College (1902) and Wilson Technical Community College (1958) are both situated in the town.
