| He grew up in Los Angeles, and, with his two brothers Carl and Dennis, formed a band – Carl and the Passions – in 1961. As the Beach Boys they had their first hit with ‘Surfin' USA’ in 1963. Other hits included ‘I Get Around’ (1964), ‘California Girls’ (1965), and ‘Good Vibrations’ (1966). |
| Pet Sounds was released to critical acclaim in 1966. Wilson spent most of the next 20 years in retirement but returned with a solo album, Brian Wilson, in 1988. He followed with Imagination (1998); Gettin' In Over My Head (2004), featuring collaborations with Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Eric Clapton; and Smile (2004). |
