Wind River Indian Reservation

American Indian reservation in Fremont and Hot Springs counties, west-central Wyoming; area 8,990 sq km/3,471 sq mi; population (1990) 21,900. It is situated in the Wind River valley and is bordered by the Shoshone National Forest to the south and west. Traversed by the Wind River, it includes Bull Lake Diversion Dam, and a large hot springs near Fort Washakie. Wyoming's only reservation, it is home to the Arapaho. The reservation headquarters is at Ethete. Economic activities include hide tanning and agriculture.
