Windsor Locks

Town in Hartford County, north-central Connecticut; population (1990) 12,400. It is situated on the Connecticut River, 19 km/12 mi north of Hartford. Commercial development began with the completion of navigational locks on the Connecticut River in 1829; early industries included a gristmill and a sawmill. Today, the area is an important centre of aircraft manufacturing and produces tinsel, metallic thread, paper goods, and electronic parts. Bradley Field, a former military airbase, is now an international airport.
