Winokur, George (1925- )

US psychiatrist. His primary area of research was in the genetic epidemiology of manic depressive (bipolar) illness, unipolar depressive illness, and alcoholism. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was professor of psychiatry at Washington University in St Louis (1966-71) and professor of psychiatry at the University of Iowa College of Medicine from 1991.
