Winslow, Jakob Benignus (1669–1760)

Danish physician and anatomist who is remembered for his description of the epiploic foramen (part of the abdomen and often called the ‘foramen (opening) of Winslow’).

Winslow was educated in Holland and Paris, where he was appointed professor of anatomy in 1743. He also demonstrated the importance of synchronized movement in antagonistic muscles, and studied the innervation and muscle fibres of the heart.
