Winsted

Town in Litchfield County, northwest Connecticut; population (1990) 8,300. It is a lake resort, situated on the Still River. It produces tape, felt, electrical appliances, and fishing tackle; its industrial history stretches back to early-19th-century clockmaking. There is some farming. Winsted is the birthplace of consumer advocate Ralph Nader.
