Winter Garden

Town in Orange County, central Florida; population (1990) 9,700. It is located 19 km/12 mi west of Orlando, on the south shore of Lake Apopka. It is a citrus and truck processing centre. In the latter decades of the 20th century it experienced both tourist and residential growth.

Winter Garden

Agricultural region of south Texas, in Maverick, Zavala, Dimmit, Frio, and Lasalle counties. Artesian well water in this area just northeast of the Rio Grande transformed a ranching economy in the 1920s. The area now produces huge vegetable and fruit crops, and is also popular with winter vacationers. Crystal City is a major centre.
