Winter Garden| Town in Orange County, central Florida; population (1990) 9,700. It is located 19 km/12 mi west of Orlando, on the south shore of Lake Apopka. It is a citrus and truck processing centre. In the latter decades of the 20th century it experienced both tourist and residential growth. |
Winter Garden| Agricultural region of south Texas, in Maverick, Zavala, Dimmit, Frio, and Lasalle counties. Artesian well water in this area just northeast of the Rio Grande transformed a ranching economy in the 1920s. The area now produces huge vegetable and fruit crops, and is also popular with winter vacationers. Crystal City is a major centre. |
