Wirksworth

Market town in Derbyshire, central England, 20 km/12 mi northwest of Derby; population (2001) 5,700. It has stone quarries and manufactures tape and hosiery. The town was once the centre of the Derbyshire lead-mining industry. St Mary's church dates from the 13th century.

George Eliot used the town as a background for part of her novel Adam Bede 1859.
