Wisbech

Town and port in Cambridgeshire, England, on the River Nene; population (2001) 20,200. It lies in the centre of an agricultural and fruit-growing district; agricultural implements, beer, and baskets are produced. There are engineering works, and other industries include canning, preserving, can-making, shipbuilding, and printing.

There are many Georgian houses on the North Brink and South Brink, near the Nene quay, some of which have Dutch characteristics.

Chiefs at the 99p Store in Wisbech launched an investigation into how wine gums were classed as a banned item for under-18s.
A 99p Stores spokesman added: "Because the Wisbech store opened fairly recently there seems to have been a very unfortunate glitch.
The project partners, led by Fenland District Council, felt it was equally important to raise the aspirations of future generations of Wisbech, affected by decades of deprivation and economic decline.
