Witham

River in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, England; length 129 km/80 mi. It rises in Rutland and flows past Grantham and Lincoln, and then southeast past Tattershall and Boston into the Wash north of the River Welland.

Witham

Town in Essex, eastern England, on the River Brain, between Chelmsford and Colchester; population (2001) 22,500. Industries include the manufacture of metal windows, gloves, and fruit juice; there is also milling, seed growing, and malting. There are ancient earthworks around the church of St Nicholas.
