Wlaschiha, Ekkerhard (1938– )

German bass-baritone. He studied in Weimar and made his debut in 1961 at Gera 1961, as Don Fernando (Fidelio). Between 1964 and 1970 he sang with the Dresden and Weimar Operas; from 1970 he appeared at Leipzig, as Pizarro, Jochanaan, and Scarpia. He sang Kaspar at the re-opening of the Dresden Semperoper (1985) and Kurwenal at Bayreuth (1986). He performed Telramund in Berlin, and was best known as Alberich, which he sang in Ring productions at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London (1990), the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, and Chicago (both 1993).
