Wohltemperierte Clavier, Das

    0.03 sec.

Wohltemperierte Clavier, Das

Two sets of preludes and fugues by Bach for keyboard (not exclusively clavichord, as has sometimes been inferred from a misunderstanding of the title), finished in 1722 and 1744 respectively. Each set consists of a cycle of 24 preludes and fugues in all the major and minor keys in ascending order. The two books together are commonly known in England as ‘The 48’. See also Weber (Bernhard Christian).
