Woking

Town in Surrey, southeast England, 37 km/23 mi southwest of London; population (2001) 89,850. It is largely residential and owes its growth to railway development after 1838 when a station opened 3 km/2 mi from Old Woking.

There is a large mosque (1889) here, and many commons and parks. In Old Woking the church of St Peter has Norman origins.
