Unitary authority in southeast England, created in 1998 from part of the former county of Berkshire.

Wokingham

Town, administrative centre of Wokingham unitary authority, in southern England, between Reading and Bracknell; population (2001) 30,400. The chief forest town of Windsor Forest, it has been a market centre for over 700 years.

All Saints' church has a carved Perpendicular Gothic font, and there are almshouses in the town, some of which date from 1451.

The poets John Gay, Pope, Swift, and Arbuthnot are said to have composed the ballad of ‘Molly Mog’ at the local Rose Inn.
