Wolcott

Town in New Haven County, east-central Connecticut; population (1990) 13,700. It is situated to the northeast of Waterbury, on the Mad River. A hilly, largely rural community with many small rivers and reservoirs, it has shared in the region's industrial history, chiefly as a toolmaker. The educational reformer Bronson Alcott (1799) and clockmaker Seth Thomas (1785) were born in the town.
