Wolf Point

Town and administrative headquarters of Roosevelt County, northeast Montana; population (1990) 2,900. It is situated on the Missouri River, 77 km/48 mi east-southeast of Glasgow. Settled in 1878 as a cattle town, it was named after the high hill that was a landmark for steamboat pilots. It makes dairy products, flour, and honey, and has a number of light industries.

Annual events include the Wild Horse Stampede, Montana's oldest rodeo, and a large powwow held by Sioux and Assiniboine American Indians, many of whom live in the city and in the Fort Peck reservation to its north.
