Wolff, Albert (Louis) (1884–1970)

French conductor and composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatory. In 1908 he became chorus master at the Opéra-Comique and was appointed conductor in 1911; he succeeded Messager as chief conductor in 1922. Between 1928 and 1934 he conducted the Lamoureux concerts and later directed the Pasdeloup concerts. He was conductor of the Paris Opéra from 1949. He conducted the first performances of Roussel's fourth symphony (1935) and Poulenc's Les mamelles de Terésias (1947).
