Sturdily built dog with erect ears and curled tail. It has a long grey top-coat, forming a mane around the neck, and a short, very thick undercoat, with darker ‘spectacles’ around the eyes. The ideal height is 46 cm/18 in for dogs; 43 cm/17 in for bitches, and the ideal weight is 25–30 kg/55–66 lb.
