Wood, Devolson

Wood, Devolson (1832–1897)

US civil engineer, educator, and author. He designed an ore dock in 1866 and invented an air compressor and a steam rock drill. Born in Smyrna, New York, he taught at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey (1872–97). He was the author of works on mechanics, bridge construction, and mathematics.
