Wood, Victoria (1953– )

English writer, comedian, and singer who rose to prominence in the 1980s as one of UK television's leading comics. First appearing in the talent show New Faces, she went on to star in her own shows, including Wood and Walters (1981–82), in partnership with Julie Walters, Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV (1984), and Dinner Ladies (1998). In the 1990s she continued her stand-up comedy tours.

Wood has also written a number of sketch and song books, including It's Up to You, Porky (1985), Barmy (1987), and Mens Sana in Thingummy Doodah (1990).
