Herman, Woody (Woodrow Charles) (1913–1987)

US jazz bandleader and clarinettist. A child prodigy, he was leader of his own orchestra at 23, and after 1945 formed his Thundering Herd band. Soloists in this or later versions of the band included Lester Young and Stan Getz.
