Woodside

Town in San Mateo County, north-central California; population (1990) 5,000. It is an affluent residential suburb, 8 km/5 mi northwest of Palo Alto. It developed around the Woodside Store (1854), in a lumbering region on the east of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Filoli, an estate with a noted house and gardens, was established here in 1916–19.
