Wooler

Small town on the River Till in Northumberland, northeast England, 27 km/17 mi northwest of Alnwick; population (2001) 1,850. Wooler lies at the foot of the Cheviot Hills on the edge of the Northumberland national park. It is an agricultural market town and tourism is also important.

Fragments of the medieval castle remain, and there are a number of prehistoric settlements in the district. It was once a stronghold, guarding the approach to the Till lowland.
