Woolner, Thomas

Woolner, Thomas (1825–1892)

English sculptor and poet. He was an original member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and wrote poems for the Germ, a short-lived Pre-Raphaelite literary journal. His statues and portrait busts include those of the writers Tennyson, Thomas Carlyle, and John Stuart Mill.

Woolner was born at Hadleigh, Suffolk, and studied under William Behnes and at the Royal Academy.
