Woosnam, Ian (1958– )

Welsh golfer who, in 1987, became the first UK player to win the World Match Play Championship. He has since won many tournaments, including the World Cup in 1987 and the Masters in 1991. He was ranked number one in the world for 50 weeks in 1991–92. He represented Europe in eight Ryder Cups 1983–97 and captained Europe to victory in 2006.
