Wooster

Town in Wayne County, north-central Ohio; population (1990) 22,200. It is located 48 km/30 mi southwest of Akron. It is a trading centre for the surrounding agricultural and oil drilling region. Manufactures include rubber and plastic products, paints, truck bodies, food products, pumps, and tools. It is home to the College of Wooster (1866), and the large Agricultural Research and Development Center, which is run by Ohio State University and includes the Secrest Arboretum, lies to the south. Founded in 1808, the town was named after the Revolutionary general David Wooster.
